A Sad Goodbye to Itzhak Ilan – Former Shin Bet Deputy Director

October 22, 2020

Itzhak Ilan, honorable board member of Gabriel Intelligence and former deputy Director of Shin Bet (ISA), passed away last Thursday at the age of 64.

Itzhak Ilan joined the Gabriel Intelligence advisory board contributing his knowledge of over 30 years in the Shin Bet, which included field work, counter-intelligence and interrogation techniques, undercover operations and much more.

Itzhak perfected and shaped our methods and operations we execute today, thus allowing us to get the best results for our clients.

Between 1982-2012, Itzhak eventually rose to the position of Deputy Director of the Shin Bet.  He held a number of senior intelligence positions, among them, Head of the agency’s Foreign Division, Head of the Counter-Terrorism Division and Head of the Interrogations Division.

He had experience in managing complex security and intelligence operations and addressing crisis situations. Ilan consulted on high-level security cases in various sectors, suspect interrogations, counter-espionage & field investigations.

Over the years, Ilan led hundreds of intelligence, investigation and counterterrorism operations, which have saved many lives.

Even in his last days, he performed with such heroism and determination that was so characteristic of who he was, despite his illness, to the point of exhausting his strength.

Ilan was a professional polygraph examiner and the CEO of a holding company which invests in companies that provide green energy solutions. Later, he ran for the 21st Knesset elections, as part of the Kachol Lavan (Blue and White) list.

Itzhak was a good friend. Humble, kind and an affable person. It was always a pleasure to talk to him and hear another exciting story from his extensive lifetime experiences. He was full of knowledge, wisdom and inspiration for people around him.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family. Itzhak will be greatly missed.
